dreamboat pieces

Here's a look at the Giclee print 'Star Gazer' and the 'Dreamboat in a bottle'. I'll be adding a photo diary of the dreamboat in a bottle soon. For such a small thing it took a long time to make, and was surprisingly challenging.

Inkygoodness Dreamboat exhibition

If you are in Bristol Friday the 10th of December then head on over to start the bus (on Baldwin Street) for a music and art extravaganza! Inkygoodness is holding another one of its group shows only this time in collaboration with Dreamboat records. I'm showing an A2 Giclee print 'Star Gazer' and a customised ship in a bottle! Which was challenging to say the least. ^_^ I hope you enjoy the show.

Digital Artist Tutorial Issue 13

I was commissioned by Digital Artist magazine to create a tutorial. A reader wrote in asking how to add surreal elements in to his illustration. I really enjoyed writing the text and creating the visuals. It was made even more fun as surrealism is my speciality.

can you draw the internet?

The internet is a place full of joy and danger in equal measure. Nowhere else could you find pirates, viruses, bots, boobs, worms, and cream pies! Here's my interpretation for the 'can you draw the internet?' project. Voting starts Friday 12th of November. If you like what I've done please vote here http://www.canyoudrawtheinternet.com/

I would be...

Here's my rather snazzy edition to the I would be... project. I've always had a geeky obsession with cosmology, and can be found on occasion gazing at the stars with my mouth open wondering what it might be like up there. Ape On The Moon feature

There's a rather nifty interview with myself on the ape on the moon website, which you can read here
http://apeonthemoon.com/2010/10/21/rich-pop-surrealism-by-carlos-garde-martin/
Incidentally they also did a lovely write up about the recent Glug event where I was painting a porcelain skull, along with some other talented illustrators. http://apeonthemoon.com/2010/10/16/painted-skulls-at-glug/

Madame Geisha mural in progress

Here's a few behind the scenes snaps of a mural I'm doing for Madame Geisha bar in Brighton. More to follow...

October's Rack n Ruin poster

Here's this month's Rack n Ruin poster. It's held at Madame Geisha bi monthly. Notice this month's theme has a strong Halloween feel to it. No prizes for guessing where the inspiration came from for his skeleton suit.

Buy this month's issue of Digital Artist Magazine and see my mug in it... init!

I was rather pleased to have been asked to be in this Month's Digital Artist Magazine. I have a full page to myself and my illustrations in the artist spotlight section. You can pick it up a copy from WHSmith's shops amoungst others. Here's a quote "One who stood out was 29-year-old Carlos Garde-Martin, who's exuberant and versatile artwork was a perfect fit for the theme of the show." Look out for next month's issue where I was commissioned to create a tutorial for them.

Glug skull painting finished

Here is the finished skull, now it's just up to the lovely folk at the pottery cafe to do the glazing, and firing. I can't wait to see how vibrant the colours will be! Expect another update about it very soon and details on how you'll be able to purchase my skull along with the other artists in a special charity auction.

Glug skull painting

I was invited to customise a rather lovely skull for this month's Glug Brighton. Some of the south's top talent was on show doing their thang with Ollie Munden, Will Scobie, and Rosie Irvine to name a few. My design is quite complex, so rather than rushing it I'll be going along to the Pottery Cafe later this week to finish it off. Then next week the skulls will be auctioned off for charity. I'll make sure I post further pictures of when the line work has been done, and after it's been fired in the kiln.
