Hi all this is the 'Too Cool for Yule' range of plushies I've been feverishly working on with the help of Santa's Elves. They are limited edition, each design only has 20 in existence. So pop down to the Bricklane Christmas market from the17th-21st December and grab yourself an alternative Xmas Pressie. I'll be on the Soupa Market stall along with all the other talented folk from Soupa Creative Network.

POPsicle - Inspired by the Tate Modern Exhibition 'Pop Life' from initial ideas through to completion

I combined all my ideas together that I liked and drew a composition straight on to paper. I always feel it is better to just draw directly, I find that if you use pencil as a guide you tend to loose your spontaneity. Another advantage is that it speeds up the process and you think more about what you are doing. Unfortunately I don't have an A3 scanner so I had to scan in the drawing in 3 parts and assemble it in Photoshop.

I was not totally happy with everything in the composition, see if you can spot what I've changed from the previous version. If there was a lot that I was unhappy with I would just draw it again but the change is minimal and for the better of the composition.

The next step was taking it into Illustrator. I initially wanted to take inspiration from the colours used in the exhibition logo but I had a nagging feeling that it wasn't finished and was missing something.

Tadaaaa! I did have to swap some of the colours round make the introduction of yellow work. Just by adding an extra colour the design has been elivated to another level and communicates my message of fun and pop alot more. I think it's imperative that you develop the skill of self analysis and knowing when and when not to add to a piece of work.

Soupa's August Website Banner

I was asked to do this months website banner over at Soupa. The inspiration was my interpretation of summertime. Eating rock, deck chairs, ice cream, and wasps. They're all there!

New Blood

I am very much looking forward to being part of The D&AD's annual New Blood event at the end of the month. I have been picked as one of the top students graduating from my class and I am very proud to be representing Hertfordshire University. Hopefully I will meet some of you nice industry folk for a chat and biscuit (though not necessarily in that order). I will post some pics on here from the event when I can. Oh and if you are thinking of coming then you need to make a pledge here's a link to mine http://newblood.dandad.org/#2383
